Grants for Training and Post-secondary Courses
Now is an excellent time to apply for training funds through the BC Employer Training Grant. You can currently apply for funding for courses starting in June through to December at established post-secondary institutions, colleges or other certified education facilities. On September 1st you will be able to apply for funding for courses and training starting in January 2020.

2019/20 Fisheries Enterprise Management Training (FEMT)
The FEMT Fisheries Operations Management course has been developed, and we are planning for its delivery in the 2019/20 fiscal. We are also planning to deliver one or two of the previously delivered FEMT courses: Human Resources, Strategic Business Planning, Financial Management and Project Management. We will be sending out a survey to get your feedback about which courses you would like to see delivered and their timing. Expect to see the survey in your inbox next week.
Other Important Funding Deadlines:
- June 15: Rural Dividend Funding Application Intake Begins. Application materials can be found on their website.
- June 28: PICFI Business Development Source (BDS) Funding Application Deadline for Access-Only Projects. Application materials can be found on the CFE Hub.
Report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans
In May 2019, the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans published their report on West Coast Fisheries: Sharing Risks and Benefits. The report describes twenty recommendations derived from five public hearings held in early 2019, where they heard testimonies from fish harvesters, commercial and recreational fishing organizations, fish processing companies, social scientists, NGOs, the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and DFO officials.
